Well, this is fun. Started our bathroom demo yesterday and contractor found asbestos tile under the vinyl flooring. Now I need asbestos abatement before anything else can happen. 😭

Original budget: $13,000
Asbestos removal quote: $6,500
New total: I want to cry

This is a house from 1962 so I guess I should have expected it, but still. Has anyone else dealt with asbestos surprises? Did you do the full professional removal or are there cheaper options?

I know you can't just DIY asbestos removal, but this is killing my budget. Any advice for managing this unexpected cost?
