Met with a contractor yesterday who seems great, but his quote is confusing me. Instead of a fixed price, he gave me a range: "$12,000-$16,000 depending on material choices and any surprises we find."
Is this normal? 🤔 How do I budget for this? I'm worried about being locked in and then getting hit with the $16K price (or more!) once they start.
On one hand, I appreciate the honesty about potential issues. On the other hand, I need to know what I'm spending! Should I keep shopping around for fixed quotes, or is this just how it works? First time doing anything this major.
